According to the Sotheby's sale catalogue from 3rd December 1980, this work was executed circa 1882 and Francois Daulte refers to this drawing, in a letter dated 2nd December 1976, as follows; "c'est sans doute une recherche préparatoire pour des tableaux exécutes le long du Canal de l'Ourcq (cf. mon catalogue, numéros 459 et 490).".


Condition report

There are traces of a fold, running vertically to the centre of the work.  A few flecks of dirt, upper right but otherwise the sheet is generally sound.  No sign of fading to colours.
