This work is the second, final state, an extremely rare and unrecorded trial proof before the colour stones for the sky, grass and jockeys' trousers, (Wittrock knew of only four trial proofs), before the second edition of 112 (there was also an edition of approximately seventy of the first state printed in black only).

Condition report

With narrow margins, light-staining, the colours possibly slightly attenuated, pale scattered foxing with associated discolouration, a flattened crease at the lower right sheet edge, some other creases to edges, a very small tear to upper right sheet edge, some very small nicks to sheet edges in places, an irregular trimmed sheet edge at left. Pin prink hole upper centre and lower centre (both at centre of a cross). Small pieces of tape on back of sheet to top. Otherwise generally in good condition.
