Inlaid with ivory discs, interior fitted with a tray, 30cm wide; 13cm high
The incorporation of porcupine quills as a decorative material was unique to Ceylon and in particular the three trading posts of Galle, Matara and Matura. They followed English forms and were made specifically for the English expatriates, although by the late 19th century an export trade existed for such wares.
