The arched case with foliate carved pediment above fully glazed hinged door with moulded surround, above a well-figured bombé shaped base, on four scrolled feet, the 13in circular silvered dial signed Barnes & Co, Gainsbro', with sweep minute hand and subsidiaries for hour and second, the high-quality movement with four screwed turned pillars, shouldered plates, high pinion count and wheelwork with six crossings, Harrison’s maintaining power, three screwed chatons to the backplate, the deadbeat escapement with jewelled pallets, held within a finely-cut twin A-frame, the pendulum suspended from the backplate, with polished steel rod, faceted-glazed mercurial compensated jar, with gilded engraved cap and fine adjustment

A virtually identical regulator, although not signed, and with variance in the veneer figuring, was sold Bonhams, London, 7 July 2009, lot 53. The movement also features the same distinctive pallet frame.
COMPARATIVE LITERATURE:
Derek Roberts, English Precision Pendulum Clocks, Atglen, 2003, p.246, illustrates another similar regulator, with the same distinctive bombe base and pallet frame.
CONDITION REPORT
The seatboard and its securing timbers are replaced. However, the dial and movement are likely to be original to the case. See the Bonhams regulator which is of exactly the same type in terms of its case and the dial layout, especially the finely-made A-frame twin pallets and distinctive hands.
With its mercury compensated pendulum and brass-cased weight. Lacking its pulley.
The movement is dirty and requires a clean and service.
