Bidding ended. Lot is unsold.

Ashbee’s lighting designs from the late 19th Century embraced the new mode of lighting - electricity. His designs reflected this revolutionary change as noted in his essay of 1895, Suggestions for Light Fittings and an article in the Art Journal describing his own chandelier. In this instance, this electrolier is reminiscent of an example offered by Lyon & Turnbull, October 2021, lot 142. Both have open work frames with hanging electrical wires and employ reflective ‘cowls’ or shades to further enhance the downward flow of light.

Condition report:

There the inevitable scuffs, scratches, dents,  and marks commensurate with wear, use and age.

There are three glass shades, one is not secured. There other missing.

The tulip shaped finial needs some realignment as it looks to be a little wonky or off centre. Other elements will require tightening and straightening to some degree - such as the copper disc reflectors. The whole will require rewiring and PAT testing.
