A GROUP OF FIFTEEN JAMES POWELL & SONS WHITEFRIARS DRINKING GLASSES (15)

Probably circa 1880-90 after a design attributed to Philip Webb from circa 1860
Each glass with lipped double ogee bowl, raised on a twisted stem and plain foot, comprising; five glasses, approx. 13cm high; seven glasses, approx. 12.5cm high and three glasses, approx. 11.5cm high

Literature: a wine glass of similar form is illustrated in Whitefriars Glass, The Art of James Powell & Sons, ed. by Lesley Jackson, 1996, p.104, pl. 33 (iii), described as probably designed by Harry Powell in the 1890's.
A pair of glasses of this design, dated to about 1859 and possibly designed by Philip Webb for William Morris,  were bequeathed to the V & A Museum by May Morris, the daughter of Morris in 1939 ( C.81- 1939)
