Attractively bound in contemporary green half morocco gilt, top edges gilt (spines faded). Provenance: From the Collection of Wilfrid Ward (armorial bookplate); "Gardner S. Bazley, Magd. Coll. Oxon" (bookplate). NUMBER 176 OF 500 "EDITION DE LUXE" SETS. "[Charles Lever], born and educated in Dublin, qualified as an MD and practised in Ireland. He became a prolific and successful novelist, writing chiefly of military and Irish life ... Lever received much encouragement and advice from Thackeray, and was admired by G. Eliot and A.
