Hand-coloured engraved frontispiece and 4 plates only (of 5, lacking the plate captioned "Poole Canoe ...", occasional light spotting and staining). FINELY BOUND in later red half morocco gilt by Bayntun (Rivière), with 4 hunting motifs stamped in gilt in the compartments of the spine, top edges gilt, others uncut (some very small white spots to the covers). "This work [i.e. Instructions to Young Sportsmen], by which Hawker became widely known, passed through many editions, and was amended and added to from time to time; the eleventh edition is dated 1859" (DNB).
