BAKER, Ezekiel (1758-1836).  Remarks on Rifle Guns: Being the Result of Sixty Years' Practice and Observation: with Specific Remarks on Fowling Pieces, the Percussion Lock, and Fire Arms in General. To which are Subjoined Descriptions of a New Bullet Mould and Clipper, Various Improvements in Gun and Door Locks, and Spring Bolts, a Description of Fire Arms Deposited in the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich, including all the Improvements and Inventions for which three Silver Medals have been awarded by the Society of the Arts, together with Tables of Weights of Balls, Descriptive Plates, &c. ... The Eleventh Edition. London: Printed by Joseph Mallett, 1835. 8vo (216 x 135mm). Hand-coloured engraved frontispiece with the caption "Rifleman Presenting", engraved plate with hand-coloured Royal coat-of-arms at the head dated "Brighton, Dec. 11th 1806" recording George IV's shots at 3 targets (when he was Prince of Wales), hand-coloured engraved plate showing three gun positions with a poetic quintain, 5 further hand-coloured plates bound in after the index, one uncoloured engraved plate of "bullet moulds", another uncoloured engraved plate comparing, in its lower half, target shots of "Mr. Nock's Barrel" and "Mr. Baker's Barrel" (to Mr. Baker's barrel's advantage), 7 [?]engraved tables (without a half title, the frontispiece offset onto the title, frontispiece and title spotted and lightly browned, some light spotting and staining but most of the text leaves remarkably clean and bright). Contemporary half black morocco and old marbled boards, new endpapers (heavily restored but preserving the old spine). Provenance: From the Collection of Wilfrid Ward; William Courtney Overstreet (library label); RAYMOND L. J. RILING (ex libris label of the writer of the standard bibliography of guns and shooting). Since the book - first published in 1800, when it consisted of just 18-pages - went into a total of 11 editions and underwent numerous revisions and addenda throughout, we have provided a more than usually detailed collation of this copy of the eleventh, and last, edition to be published.
