ALBUM - An album of crests, monograms and other decorative armorial devices laid down on c.80 vellum leaves, some with "key" leaves on the adjacent page identifying the families, regiments, institutions, etc., with highly decorative and elaborate painted foliate, scrolled and geometric borders throughout, two incorporating figures of mounted and foot-soldiers, [mid-late 19th-century], 4to (190 x 150mm). Attractively bound in contemporary full red morocco decorated in gilt and with "Crests, Monograms &c." stamped in gilt within a garland on the upper cover, gilt edges, gold metal clasp, engraved on its inner side "Barritt & Co." (the clasp loose, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: [?]"Helen" (name painted in contemporary stylised coloured letters within wide decorative border on the first or "title" page [see illustration]); modern armorial bookplate.
