The Third Edition. London: Printed for the Author, by D. N. Shury, 1801. 4to (268 x 215mm). 4 engraved hand-coloured plates (repair to lower fore-corner of title without loss, many text leaves browned and stained although the plates generally cleaner). Contemporary calf (rebacked, corners repaired, rubbed and scuffed, inner hinges reinforced). Provenance: From the Collection of Professor Jonathan Brostoff, D.M., D.Sc., FRCP, FRCPath (1934-2020); [?]Geo. [?]Borton (old signature at head of title); Peterborough Public Dispensary (stamp on title). "Jenner's work is the basis of the modern science of immunology. When Pasteur successfully inoculated sheep against anthrax he called such preventive inoculations 'vaccines' [from the Latin for cow] in honour of Jenner ... Jenner had started one of the greatest practical advances in preventive medicine ..." (PMM).
