INDIA & EGYPT - Samuel BOURNE (1834-1912) & Charles SHEPHERD (fl.1858-78, photographers). 83 fine original albumen prints mounted on card, most or all by Samuel Bourne or by Samuel Bourne & Charles Shepherd, chiefly of Indian views and subjects including Calcutta [now Kolkata], Benares, the Taj Mahal, the Hawa Mahal, and other temples, buildings, street scenes, cemeteries or ruins, distant views of the Himalayas, groups of indigenous people, a warship, a few signed and numbered in the negative, usually one mounted to each page, but occasionally two to a page, the larger prints measuring approximately 225 x 285mm., [?]one dated 1874 [or possibly a code-number], the others undated but c.1870-80 (some staining or spotting to mounts, a few short tears to mounts, not affecting prints, but the prints generally clean), contained in a late 19th-century half roan album, gilt edges (worn, lacks spine). With 10 unbound albumen prints of Egypt and the pyramids signed in the negative by Hippolyte Arnoux. Provenance: From the Collection of the late Seymour Stein (1942-2023). (11)
