MISCELLANY - EPICTETUS (c. 50-c.135 AD).  Enchiridium una cum cebetis Thebani tabula Græc. et Lat. "Delphis" [i.e. Delft]: Apud Adrianum Beman, 1723. 8vo (190 x 115mm). Additional engraved allegorical title, printed title in red and black, folding engraved allegorical plate by Romijn de Hoog of the "Tabula cebetis" dated 1670 (small hole in printed title, some light browning and staining). Contemporary armorial vellum gilt, the covers with a coat-of-arms [unidentified] with motto "Per angusta ad augusta" stamped in gilt (lightly stained, lacks ties). Provenance: Robert Eaton White (armorial bookplate, with a different coat-of-arms from the one on the covers); J. Rawlinson, Naples (later signature on front free endpaper); another armorial bookplate partly removed from the verso of the printed title. With 13 other very miscellaneous works in 16 vols. including Franco Sacchetti's Delle Novelle (Florence, 1724, part one only, contemporary vellum), Domenico Maria Manni's Lezioni di Lingua Toscana ... Schrifture (Amsterdam, 1768, engraved architectural title, old calf with metal clasps, very worn), Francis Grose's The Antiquities of Scotland (London, 1789-91, 2 vols., engraved plates, [?]lacks map, contemporary calf), John Collins' The Chapter of Kings (London, 1818, 12mo, 37 [?]etched plates with partial early hand-colouring [?or defaced], lacks all before title, original cloth gilt), Paul Schützenberger's Traité des Matières Colorantes comprenant leurs Applications a la Teinture et a l' Impression et des Notices sur les Fibres Textiles, les Épaissants et les Mordants (Paris, 1867, 2 vols., coloured textile samples laid-down throughout, contemporary half calf, RARE), Les Femmes de tous les Pays dessinées et gravées par les plus Habiles Artistes (Paris, [c. 1880], folio, engraved plates, (bizarrely) bound in highly elaborate red Chinese pictorial boards gilt, lacks spine) and a modern address book for "West House" attractively bound in [?]18th-century red morocco and stamped with Bernard Nevill's initials. Provenance: from the Collection of the late Professor Bernard Nevill (1930-2019).
