Original green pictorial buckram gilt, top edges gilt, others uncut, floral endpapers. Provenance: from the Collection of the late Professor Bernard Nevill (1930-2019). A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION of the first scholarly account of English gardening history, still considered authoritative. PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed on the front free endpaper, "Rosie and Harry, With every good wish, from The Author, Jan. 16th 1896." The book includes a useful annotated bibliography of books on English gardening.
