ALBUM - An oblong 4to
(257 x 370mm) photograph album containing c. 80 mounted photographs, of which approximately 15 of
Indian subjects, including the first “Delhi Durbar” or the “Proclamation Durbar” of 1877, but also including some English, Scottish and European views, the
mounts titled in old manuscript and dated variously 1874-90, various sizes,
bound in contemporary black half roan gilt (rubbed and stained, rebacked). The exceptionally fine group of Indian
photographs include “Bungalow occupied by Lieuts. Sherlock and Schooles at
Subathu, India – Polo ponies ‘Cookie’ and ‘Smuttie’,” “Cantonments Parade
Ground, Cawpore – Memorial Church in distance – 73rd Reg.t on
parade,” “Bridge on Road to Simla,” “Proclamation of the Queen to be Empress of
India at Delhi on 1st January 1877,” and two more of the same,
“Imperial Assembly, Delhi,” “The Officers 73rd Reg.t at Cawnpore”
and “The Officers 73rd Perthshire Reg.t at Lucknow.” The non-Indian
subjects include views of Aldershot, Tunbridge Wells, Eridge Castle, Eastbourne,
Perth [Scotland], Exeter, Brighton, Nice, Cannes and Monte-Carlo.
