YEATS, W. B. (1865-1939).  The Secret Rose. London: Lawrence and Bullen, 1897. 8vo (192 x 130mm). Half title, frontispiece, title printed in red and black, 6 plates by  Jack Butler Yeats. Exceptionally bright original blue decorated cloth gilt designed by Althea Gyles, uncut. Provenance: unidentified child's letter ("... We went to Peter Pan yesterday ...") loosely-inserted. A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION, first impression, with "Lawrence and Bullen" at the foot of the spine. Symons p.8; Wade 21. The book was issued without a dust-jacket. With the same author's The Shadowy Waters (London, Hodder and Stoughton, 1900, 4to, original dark blue ribbed cloth gilt with a small floral motif stamped in gilt on the upper cover, FIRST EDITION).
