Original tan bevelled buckram, the spine with suede lettering-piece, top edges gilt, others uncut (lettering-piece stained, lightly stained, some staining to front free endpaper, without a dust-jacket [?as issued]). FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S SECOND NOVEL. NUMBER 23 OF 145 COPIES ON HAND-MADE PAPER SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR "for private issue to subscribers only." PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed on the front free endpaper, "Nina's book. For Nina, with my love, another essay from my [?]voyage, James Hanley, 26.12.'66.", with a loosely-inserted one-page typed letter, signed, dated "June 25th [no year]", stating, "Dearest Nina, at last, I'm able to return your copy of BOY, and with our best thanks for the loan of it. It didn't get bashed about since I only sent it on a single journey, and then withdrew it, after which I typed it out myself at home. Love from us both, Yours, James."
