Noel Pocock (3 plates detached, some mainly marginal staining, 2 pages more heavily spotted at the beginning). Original red pictorial cloth, spine lettered in gilt (lacks front free endpaper, head of spine torn and repaired with slight loss, some erosion to foot of spine with loss of letters, spine a little faded, some light staining to covers, corners rubbed, joints splitting, some signatures starting, label unobtrusively removed from the front pastedown). Provenance: old pencil inscription on half title. FIRST EDITION, first issue, without the publisher's advertisements at the end. The author's second novel. RARE. McIlvaine A2a.
