Half title, coloured frontispiece, coloured illustrations on title with lettering printed in blue, 17 full-page coloured illustrations and other illustrations in the text by Beatrix Potter (some light marginal staining and browning, more pronounced to the last few leaves). Original red cloth with letters in green and gilt and coloured pictorial label by Beatrix Potter mounted on upper cover, pictorial endpapers (corners a little rubbed). Provenance: "Nancy Collier, 5th Sept., 1909" (signature on front free endpaper). FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with "[All Rights Reserved]" printed beneath the year of publication on the front of the title page. In 1926, the work was re-titled "The Tale of Samuel Whiskers."
