JONSON, Ben (1572-1637).  Horace, His Art of Poetrie. Made English. [London: no publisher], 1640. Folio in 4s (282 x 190mm). The text is paginated [1]-292 but apparently lacking pp. 134-160 [see below] (title browned and stained, with a few chips). Stitched. The collection includes Horace, of the Art of Poetrie (pp. [1]-29), The English Grammar. Made by Ben Johnson [sic]. For the benefit of all Strangers, out of his observation of the English Language now spoken, and in use (pp. [33]-84), Timber: or, Discoveries; made Upon Men and matter: as they have flow'd out of his daily Readings; or had their refluxe to his peculiar Notion of the Times (pp. 85-132), Under-Woods. Consisting of Divers Poems (pp. [161-283, i.e., apparently lacking pp. 134-160] and Mortimer. His Fall. A Tragedie (pp. [287-292]). The final play, Mortimer, ends with the printer's melancholy statement, "Hee dy'd, and left it unfinished."
