FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, the first page of the first part signed and inscribed, "a Maurice Delage, amicalement, Maurice Ravel." The "Deux Epigrammes de Clément Marot" were premiered at a recital in Paris in 1900 sponsored by the Société Nationale de Musique, with the composer at the piano. The two songs are based on the texts of French Renaissance poet Clément Marot (1496-1544). The recipient of this presentation copy, Maurice Charles Delage (1879-1961), was a French composer, pianist and a pupil of Ravel's. Ravel, who held him in very high esteem, dedicated his piano piece "La Vallée des Cloches", from the suite "Miroirs", to him. (2)
