Provenance:
The vendor’s late grandmother, Margot Dent, taught and
mentored Philip Blacker, when he was starting out as a sculptor whilst also a
professional steeplechase jockey between the years 1973 - 1977. During this time Blacker notably achieved 340 wins and finished the Grand National nine times.
He came fourth to Red Rum’s first Grand National win in 1973 and later, after
he’d retired from the saddle, Blacker was commissioned to create the life size
bronze of Red Rum at Aintree in 1986. This and other commissions established him
as an international equestrian sculptor with an unique insight.
