Footnote
Margaret was brought up in Horsted Keynes, East Sussex. She studied art at the Slade under Professor Tonks alongside Gwen and Augustus John. She then set up and ran a small commercial art studio in London. When she married, she moved to Nyasaland (Malawi) with her husband who worked for the Agriculture Department of the Colonial Office. They had a small farm of their own where Metcalfe stayed until moving back to the UK in the early 1960s. Throughout her long life she produced a large and varied body of work, much of it recording the people and landscapes of her beloved African home. She regularly exhibited her work both in Malawi and South Africa.

The purpose of this sale of work is to raise money for the charity “Mary’s Meals” so as to provide free lunches for schoolchildren in Malawi.
