ROSS LONDON, No. 432’, focussing by rack-and-pinion and lever and calibrated screw, with four oculars, four objectives, plano-concave mirror, condenser and livebox, with double nosepiece, in brass-bound mahogany double door case with single drawer, together with a collection of specimen slides, accessories and mahogany cases, the microscope 43cm high; the case 39cm x 21cm x 24cm

Andrew Ross initially produced his design for a compound monocular microscope in the early 1840s; the Y-shaped stand stabilised the device and  was the main innovative feature.
