With scrolling crest and outswept lower corners, 115cm wide; 134cm high (excluding damaged pieces of crest)
Estimate: | £200 - £400 |
Hammer price: | £2,400 |
Condition report:
Numerous breaks and losses to the cresting surrounding the frame.
Most of the elements for the crest are present as can be seen in the extra photograph, although there are still quite a few losses and small elements missing.
Further losses to the upper scroll sections of the sides.
Various parts have also been repaired at some point, reapplied and rescrewed into position. Other parts with various chips and scuffs in area. The bottom edge is fragile with loose elements, chips and breaks.
As to be expected with age and use the frame is discoloured, tarnished, dirty and with various spots of white dirt and other spots. Shrinkage between the mitred joins.
The mirror plate is probably not original as can been seen by the Orange coated backing of the plate, which would indicate a late 19th / 20th century origin. However, it has not been possible to remove the piece from the wall in the sale room, due to its fragility and location, to examine the back.
There are some oxidiszation spots to the mirror plate, and generally it is quite dirty and dusty, also spots of pink (probably paint) towards to the top.
