Footnote
Harold Gotch Robinson (1884-1954) was aged twenty-four at the time of this portrait and a photograph exists of the watercolour on the easel in Tuke's studio in Swanpool (see images). Robinson was the third son of Jessie, sister of the artist Thomas Cooper Gotch (1854-1931). He appears as a model in one of Tuke's major paintings, 'Return from Fishing' (Sold, Sotheby's London, 15th November 2011, lot 90, Tuke register no.R566). His father was a wealthy paper manufacturer based in Bristol and the present work includes a copy of 'Robinsons of Bristol, 1844-1944' by Bernard Darwin.
The present work will be on view at Cromwell Place on 26th & 27th September
