Condition Report
The canvas has been heavily relined. The paint surface is dirty with traces of a craquelure pattern throughout; some areas of separation; some separation to the darker pigments in the sitter's robe. Light spots of surface staining off the left hand border. Light surface abrasions off the upper border. Ultraviolet light reveals retouching around the sitters head - to a repair to the left of the sitter's head and around his collar. Held in a gilt and ebonised frame with some chips and losses.
