Footnote
Fred Meijer of the RKD noted that the present work is a contemporary copy of Bosschaert's signed picture of 1617 (sold Christie's, 11th December 1987, lot 40). The present work was previously attributed to Pieter Cornelisz van der Voort (1599-1624) by Dr. Walter Bernt, who noted a 'cvv' monogram (untraceable), and dated the work to 1620 (certificate dated 14 August 1971).
Condition Report
The panel has been cradled. There is a small fleck of paint loss off the lower, central border; two spots of slightly lifting paint in the extreme upper right corner; light traces of craquelure to the central flowers. Ultraviolet light reveals areas of retouching to the background, upper centre and upper left; a vertical area to the centre of the flowers; a few further retouchings to frame abrasions on the upper and lower border. Held in a later plaster gilt frame in fair condition.
