Condition report
The canvas has been relined. There is extensive craquelure, which appears stable, surface dirt and discoloured varnish. The paint is so thin in some areas. Ultraviolet light reveals patches of retouching to the background around the sitter’s head and to the sitter’s body, however an opaque varnish prevents conclusive reading.
