This bust of Venus de Capua is based on the Roman example, a full standing figure of Venus carved during the reign of Hadrian, and found at the Amphitheatre of Capua in 1750. This in turn was derived from the now missing Greek bronze original, dating to the 4th Century BC and thought to be by the sculptor Lysippus, considered by some to be one of the greatest.

Condition report:

Overall inevitable scuffs, scratches, dents, marks and heavy dirt commensurate with wear, use and age and exposure.

Most significant loss to one ball of the diadem.

Dirt to the back of the shoulders with some drips of old paint. Heavy dirt to recesses, will benefit from a good clean.
