Condition report:
The inkstand:
It is more than likely that the tortoiseshell used here is faux. Upon closer inspection it is not possible to see the depth between the two contrasting light and dark patches. There is also a clear lacquer to the surface with very small bubbles. However, it is very well done to create a believable effect. Some areas are very slightly lifting at the edges, but this is quite minor.
The silver-plate is worn to the exterior in areas revealing the copper base metal beneath. Some wear and oxidization in places to the interior. The glass liners to the pots fitted within the compartments are intact.
The boulle box with some missing tortoiseshell and brass inlay, notably to the top right corner of the hinged cover, front right and edges, and side. All together, quite worn commensurate with age and use. The interior lined, the bottom of which is quite worn and dirty.
