Jean Pierre Cortot studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, then won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1809. The marble original of this bronze is in the Louvre, Paris. Barbedienne Foundry edited the model in four sizes. This example is the second largest.
