Footnote
This work relates to a well-known paining by Grant called Nymph and Satyr which was in the collection of Raymond Mortimer and is reproduced in Mortimer's volume on Grant (1944) in the Penguin Modern Painters series. But interestingly , although the composition is very similar, this drawing shows it in reverse. Grant treated this subject on several occasions.
We are grateful to Richard Shone for his assistance with the cataloguing of this work.
