Footnote
Sir William Clark opened the 1938 Irma Stern Exhibition (see photo of exhibition invitation) and his family remained in contact with the artist for a number of years after. Stern wrote, in 1953, to Sir William's daughter, Diana, to express her 'deep sympathy' upon hearing the news of his death (see photograph of letter).
