Footnote
According to an inscription attached to the backboard the present work was discovered in 2008, behind a painting by Walter Reynolds (British, act. 1859-1888), when the latter was being reframed. The present painting is believed to have come from the Army and Navy Stores in London, where one Charlie Cross, relative of a previous owner, worked around the turn of the century.
