JOSEF HOFFMANN FOR WIENER WERKSTATTE: A PAIR OF SECESSIONIST 'GITTERWERK' SILVER FLOWER BASKETS

Early 20th Century, Vienna
The elliptical baskets and elongated loop handles in the 'Gitterwerk' lattice cut-work design, stamped 'Wiener Werkstatte' (Vienna Workshop) to the underside along with maker's mark for Joseph Hoffman and Austrian 900 standard silver mark, with clear glass liners (possibly later), 26cm high

Provenance:

Gifted to the current owner by a friend. The baskets were, by repute, brought back to the United Kingdom after the war by the friend's father as gifts. 

The baskets were featured on an episode of Antiques Roadshow in 2016 at Caversham Park. 

Condition report: 

Please see additional images to show the maker’s marks. 

There is an additional small mark to each basket on the first square of the outside to the handle. One basket with a small minor tear rim, just below the handle. See images. 

Both glass liners are dirty, scuffed and water stained commensurate with use and age. One with approx four rim chips. 

Otherwise, general inevitable wear commensurate with wear, use and age.
