A GEORGE III ORMOLU-MOUNTED BLUE JOHN CANDLE URN

Late 18th Century
The leaf clasped urn shaped body with a Greek-key frieze and reversible foliate finial and candle nozzle, flanked by scroll handles, the fluted socle and square plinth with Greek-key feet, replacement chains, 19.5cm high

Parts of this particular urn design are comparable to  features seen in Matthew Boulton’s and James Fothergill’s Pattern Book I, p. 170. See N. Goodison, Ormolu, The Work of Matthew Boulton, London, 1974, pl 163. The scroll handles are atypical, being more French in inspiration, as is the key pattern foot which is not recorded.
