The hood (formerly rising) with moulded cornice above a pair of handed turned columns with glazed front and sides, the trunk inset with a door, decorated in floral and bird marquery within oyster panels, the sides with outlined oyster panels, above a marquetry plinth, the 10in. square brass dial signed on the plate below the VI Thos Spencer, Londini, with cherub mask and foliate spandrels, enclosing silvered chapter ring, narrow seconds ring, matted centre and calendar aperture above the VI, the twin train movement with five ringed and knopped pillars, internal countwheel strike on a bell, and anchor escapement, seatboard replaced, movement and case perhaps associated

Thomas Spencer (b. 1657) was apprenticed to Solomon Bouquet 1671-1678. He gained his Freedom in 1685. He is not recorded after 1697.
Condition report
The hood still has its original runners for rising. There is no spoon. Section of the backboard is replaced. The base has been rebuilt and the marquetry panel is not original but well matched. There are two brass-cased weights, a winding crank key and a pendulum (of later date).
