A FINE LATE GEORGE III BRASS-MOUNTED MAHOGANY TRIPLE-PAD BRACKET CLOCK

The break-arch case with triple-pad top and brass carrying handle, above arched glazed panel door, the sides each with a rectangular brass silk-backed grille panel, on stepped plinth and brass ogee feet, the 8in brass dial with foliate engraved ‘spandrels’, the arch with a pair of subsidiaries for STRIKE / SILENT and calibrated regulation, above a circular enamel dial signed ELLICOTT & COMPY. ROYAL EXCHANGE LONDON, with pierced brass hands, the twin train gut fusée movement, stamped to the front plate 2562 and again to the top left shoulder, signed Ellicott Taylor & Co, London, with engraved edge, anchor escapement, substantial pendulum regulation mechanism, with pivoted pendulum locking block, striking the hour on a bell, with trip repeat

The firm of Ellicott, founded by John Ellicott in the late 17th century, continued through the18th & early 19th Century.  John (b. 1706) was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society and was Clockmaker to the King.  The style 'Ellicott & Taylor' was used from 1811-1830. 

The clock is in good condition.  The case has been cleaned and polished.  The enamel dials are not chipped and appear to have been restored (?).  The movement is working and was recently cleaned.  The two bolts holding the movement through the bottom of the case are missing.
