A VICTORIAN ENGRAVED GILT-BRASS PART DESK TIMEPIECE

The 2 3/4in circular engraved silvered dial, inscribed for Hunt & Roskell and punch numbered, the half-plate movement signed THOs COLE LONDON, with lever escapement and plain three-armed balance, in an engraved cup case, with removable central terminal for winding and hand setting

This timepiece formed part of an inkwell designed by Cole, its base now lost.  See John B. Hawkins, Thomas Cole & Victorian Clockmaking, Sydney 1975.


The timepiece is in unrestored condition and lacks its stand and glass.  The dial is tarnished and the movement is overwound and does not function.

The balance wheel does spin when the clock is turned.
