Provenance: This table was used in Somerset House, London, 1834. When the Board of Stamps merged with the Board of Taxes, this table was made for the new board's headquarters in Somerset House, London. It was designed so that both chief inspectors could sit at one desk with equal status. It's known as the 'threepenny bit' table after the old 12-sided coin.
