Provenance: Hylda and Lewis Gilbert, Sheldrake Place, London.
Lewis Gilbert (d.2018), the celebrated film director, producer and screenwriter, best known for his 007 James Bond movies and Alfie.
Condition report:
A couple of small shrinkage cracks to the tortoiseshell, obviously one to the lid on the edge and other smaller cracks to the rim and edges of the side of the body of the box.
The tesserae in relatively good order with no obvious damages or losses.
Tarnishing to the metal mounts. Wear and rubbing to the box commensurate with use and age.
