A RARE PAIR OF IRISH REPEAL MOVEMENT RECTANGULAR PORCELAIN PLAQUES

Circa 1840's
one with a figure, probably Daniel O'Connell, addressing a crowd, a banner inscribed `Ireland Without the Repeal', the other painted with a horsedrawn carriage on a country road with a waving crowd, a flag inscribed `Ireland With the Repeal', 18.5cm by 25.5cm, framed (2)

The plaques are in overall good condition with some light surface scratches. The frames with some wear and minor losses. One slip at the back of the frame is lacking

Lewis Gilbert (d.2018), the celebrated film director, producer and screenwriter, best known for his 007 James Bond movies and Alfie.
