Provenance: Hylda and Lewis Gilbert, Sheldrake Place, London. 

Lewis Gilbert (d.2018), the celebrated film director, producer and screenwriter, best known for his 007 James Bond movies and Alfie.

Condition Report: Restoration visible to the painting under uv light (see additional image) mainly to the upper portions of the sash, his nose and collar. There is some dirt beneath the glass and heavy scratching to the glass. There are small losses to the gold bezel. Looking at the edge of the frame, there appear to be what look like brass pins and some small splits, possibly as a result of reattaching the caseback after restoration or opening. There are some seed pearls missing from the glazed compartment, some also rattling around inside.
