Will Davies has worked with stone, clay and bronze for twenty years. Following his early appointment as a stone mason, Will was awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) Scholarship to study historical stone carving at The City & Guilds of London Art School. This lead to an industrious career as a freelance sculptor, working on a number of high profile projects and public art works, such as the prow sculpture that adorned Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee barge. Will's clients include the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust. Today, Will is Head Mason at Winchester Cathedral and combines his love of sculpture with his passion for restoring and conserving Britain’s rich heritage and historic architecture. His responsibilities include carving ornamentations such as gargoyles and saints, the recently carved saint on the south transept gable end being a fine example. 

Working on the north transept, Will became closely acquainted with the Cathedral’s resident pair of nesting peregrine falcons, fondly named Winnie and Chester. In 2021, after fathering fifteen chicks over five years, Chester sadly passed away and Will was inspired to sculpt this majestic peregrine falcon from Purbeck marble in his memory.
