With Latin inscription SOLI DEO HONOR ET GLORIA, raised on a circular foot, having a beaded rim, Birmingham 1912, diameter 12.7cm, weight 295 grams
Estimate: | £150 - £250 |
Hammer price: | £180 |
The bowl would have been originally entirely gilt. The gilding is now a little weak in places, particularly to the beading of the footrim. The more frequently the bowl is cleaned further gilding would be removed, eventually bringing the finish down to the silver itself. We would suggest either the bowl is left as it is, or if it is to see regular use, perhaps re-gilding would be appropriate. The images provided show the gilding to be darker than it actually is, the current appearance is fairly mottled. Height of bowl 9.3cm
