CONDITION REPORT
Some chips and losses to gesso in places, consistent with age. A small gilt-paint repair to left side of frame by bezel.
The three current dial securing holes (which cut through their five-minute marker engraving) are most likely later drilled as the three smaller holes would have been the originals used and tie up with their corresponding holes in the frame below. There are five unused countersunk holes in the framework below the dial, which are unexplained and with the countersinking suggest were for preparing the casework? It seems most likely the movement is original to the case as both elements are of the same period.
There are two unused small drill holes in the upper section of the frame. The back cover is a replacement. There is a vertical cut-out in the back of the case with the remains of an iron pin in it and four vacant holes.
The ‘false’ pendulum aperture is later. One can see it cuts through a scroll engraving below the signature.
The movement ticks and may require a service.
