Estimate: | £700 - £1,000 |
A rare and desirable pair of original Zenith carburettors, ideal for early Bugatti models and other high-performance European vehicles of the 1920s and 1930s. This set comprises:
Zenith 36 HAK LH – stamped No. 0551
Zenith 36 HAKS – stamped No. 360, marked "Carburateur Zenith Lyon"
These carburettors are believed to be correct or highly suitable for cars such as the Bugatti Type 37, Type 40, or Brescia, which frequently used updraft Zenith units of similar specification. The “36” size and “HAK” designation refer to the venturi size and carburettor configuration, commonly found on period racing and touring models from Bugatti, Amilcar, Salmson, and Voisin.
Both units appear complete and retain their original castings, linkages, and brass fittings. They have been mounted together on a simple wooden base for display purposes, though no mechanical work or inspection has been carried out. Their exterior patina is consistent with age and dry storage, offering a fantastic restoration candidate or historically correct showpiece.
Zenith carburettors of this type and condition are extremely difficult to find in matched pairs, especially those marked by Zenith Lyon and stamped with continental "Brevettato" patent notations.
A superb opportunity for vintage Bugatti restorers, collectors of pre-war engineering, or enthusiasts of rare period carburation.
