Condition report
The canvas has been relined. Extensive craquelure to paint surface and discoloured varnish. Ultraviolet reveals retouching to sitter's face; to a repair in his hair, upper right; to lace and chest; around the sword and hand, lower right; above sitter's left shoulder; to armourial, upper left; some further to frame abrasions. Held in a later ornate frame with a few losses to gilt work and mouldings.
