Footnote
Dr Thomas Monro was principle physician at Bethlem Royal Hospital and consultant physician to King George III.  As well as being an amateur artist himself he was also a keen art collector and patron to the likes of JMW Turner and Thomas Girtin, providing supper in his town house on Adelphi Terrace as the young artists sketched.  He would then purchase the resulting works on paper for a few shillings which gave rise to the term 'Monro School' which also included Peter de Wint, John Sell Cotman and William Turner of Oxford.  A number of Monro's own drawings were acquired by Turner at the Sotheby's sale of his estate in 1833.
